Artist’s Statement
In the summer of 2026, the artist traveled to her hometown of Yixing and to Paris. Amid Yixing’s bamboo forests, she felt an extraordinary surge of positive energy, as though the bamboo held a mysterious power of its own. She brought this landscape into the painting, weaving in a dragon playing with a pearl—a motif drawn from the legends of her hometown.
Beside a blue-and-white porcelain vessel, a bamboo grove surrounds a small bridge over flowing water. Within the vessel unfolds the artist’s experience of Paris that same summer. Her visit was brief, yet it felt almost surreal. In the Chopin Suite at the Ritz Paris, she played the piano, a moment of connection with Chopin, her favorite composer.
At the top of the porcelain vessel rests an embryo, representing the artist’s unborn child. The painting brings together places experienced in the present and a life yet to come. Yixing and Paris, memory and anticipation, coexist in a dreamlike space where geography and time dissolve.
